3rd ANNIVERSARY FLIGHTS START TODAY

Three years ago (April 30, 2010) Automatic Brewing Co served it's very first beer that was brewed at Blind Lady Ale House. Some of you might remember tasting Chocolate Rain, too at the CityBeat Festival of Beer. It was an oatmeal stout brewed on a 2bbl "system" in the kitchen at BLAH soon after getting our license.

We'll be "celebrating" with some beers we've been squirreling away. Watch for a 6 beer flight at BLAH and a 3 beer flight at Tiger!Tiger!. Flights will start on Tuesday the 30th and hopefully pour all week long. We'll also be releasing two new beers to help celebrat. On Friday the 26th the plan is to release a new Wit and then on Tuesday the 30th watch for DRMO IPA hitting the taps. DRMO (Don't Run Me Over) IPA features tangerines we picked at Bailey's Farm in Valley Center.

Cheers to 3 years and plenty more beers!

BLACKTAGON

Blacktagon Black Ale
.
4L Willi/ $5.50
5.5%
$16 Growler

Released 1/11/13This beer is Black Ale made with Midnight Wheat (tm), a black Wheat Malt (as opposed to Barley Malt) which adds a clean, light roasted character that comes across as Chocolate more than Roasty or Coffee-like.  While this isnt a hoppy beer, it isn’t really sweet either. It’s balanced, dark, dry, and fairly “sessionable” at 5.5%Abv. Almost like a German Schwartzbier (Black Lager), but Schwarzbier would be a lager, and this is an Ale.

86% organic.

GROWLERS ON EL CAJON BLVD?

On Friday, Oct 24th we finally sold growlers at Tiger!Tiger! We're thinking this was probably the first ever growler sale on El Cajon Boulevard and most likely the first every in North Park. Hopefully this marks the start of growlers being available all the time at Tiger!Tiger! Standard growler laws apply. No bottle from other breweries (for now) and only Automatic Brewing Co beers. Cheers!

25.1.12

Automatic 3-Speed Brown Ale

On Saturday January 29th we will release 3-SPEED BROWN in honor of Blind Lady Ale House's 3rd Anniversary. It will run out. Made with Treehouse Coffee's Yirgacheffe and organic malts. Thanks for Tap Hunter for the write up.

TapHunter.com’s American Craft Beer Week blogging series continues with an in-depth look at brewer Lee Chase’s efforts to raise the beer bar (part 1 and 2 here). Above: Chase writing up his beer offering for the first in a series of coffee beers by Automatic Brewing. More on Chase’s coffee series and what we can expect to drink by summer time, below.

Artisan pizza pies from Blind Lady Ale House decorate the cover of this month’s San Diego Magazine, the perfect snack to accompany Candace Woo’s Critic’s Pick for ‘Best Craft Beer Selection’ in town. BLAH’s curated selection of craft beers from around the world to those small batches made in-house represent brewer Lee Chase’s dedication to quality, a relevant concern as San Diego breweries and pubs grow in numbers. Curious to find out more on Chase’s quest to raise the beer bar, TapHunter.com asked a few questions exploring BLAH’s involvement with the Honest Pint Project, the quest for clean beer, and an expansion for Automatic Brewing Company debuting this summer.
TapHunter: What did you learn at Stone Brewing Company that you still put to use and think about in your endeavors at Blind Lady and/or Automatic Brewing Co?
Chase: Undoubtedly, I learned a ton from my years working at Stone: We grew the brewery from 0-55,000 barrels of beer per year over the 9+ years I was there. However, a lot of that growth was applying what I’d learned from studying Malting & Brewing Science at UC Davis. Read More...

Bike to Work/Beer Week

We started off Bike to Work Week in typical Automatic style with a 3-wheeled delivery of Insider Belgian Cream Ale to the North Park Festival of Arts. This beer was chosen by FM94/9 Insiders and was brewed specifically for the North Park Festival of Arts. Money raised at the festival from this beer benefits "About the Music Fund" which supports music education in San Diego County public schools.
